Abstraction after Warhol

My friend and I joined hundreds of MOCA members for some abstract and contemporary art on Saturday evening.  It was a celebration of painters from our time, The Painting Factory: Abstraction after Warhol.   On exhibit at MOCA Grand Avenue through {blank}.  The people are always as interesting as the art at these openings.

It was [probably] too late for an eight-year-old to be up last night, but Sean Kamifuiji, son of the fabulous Stephen and Cecilia of Genlux fame, and I dashed out to see The Pirates! Band of Misfits.  It was clever and thoroughly delightful.  The exploits of Pirate Captain and his luxuriant beard come to life in stop-motion animation, intensively executed by Aardman Animations.  Sean's eyes were closing intermittently but he hung in there like a true buccaneer.  Arrgh

Earlier this week I attended an event at Sinai Temple to celebrate Israel's 64th Independence Day. Hundreds gathered to hear Idan Raichel and witness a remarkable video about the work of 'Save a Child's Heart' organization. 'Heart' is an Israeli-based international humanitarian project providing life-saving heart surgies for those in need.

12th Annual Beverly Hills Fest

Beginning today, the 12th edition of the Beverly Hills International Film Festival takes place at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.  The U.S. premier of "The Black Tulip", a drama from Afghanistan opens the festive.  An additional 49 features films, documentaries, shorts and animated movies take place over a five day span. www.latimes.com/movies for 24 Frames blog to find out more.

Returned from sales trip

Spent the week in Chicago, the windy city, "...that toddling town", gem of the Midwest.  The travel agents and managers were warm and welcoming.  I'm looking forward to welcoming their valued travelers.  It all starts on Monday when I sort through all the business cards that I collected and follow up with information on our four branded properties!

Thank you everyone at Luxe Rodeo Drive Hotel for the birthday surprise.  Red velvet cake is my favorite.  I'm getting too old to be celebrating.  On the other hand I could do what my grandmother did: start counting over.  I appreciate having to blow out only one candle.

April is Bridal Month

Chris Burden's (creator of Urban Light) recent large-scale kinetic installation at the Los Angeles County Art Museum features 1,100 toy cars speeding across eighteen roadways, twisting around an elaborately built cityscape.  It is run only on the weekends and crowds gather in the balcony to see this intense and complex work of art.  www.LACMA.org *Please note that the last run of Metropolis II on Saturday, April 21, will be from 3:30–4:30 pm—There will be no 5:30 pm viewing. All levels of BCAM will close at 5 pm on Saturday, April 21.

Spring Is Everywhere

It seems there are signs of Spring everywhere in Beverly Hills.  Small window boxes, hanging baskets & pots, front lawns and public parks are sprouting blossoms.
