They bloomed one week earlier this year due to changes in the weather patterns but I still enjoyed what remained of the delicate foliage. This is a collage of my first day in Tokyo. In a city of 18 million people, this was as tranquil as it was going to get.
This current exhibit at the Los Angeles County Art Museum encompasses Marc Chagall's costumes and set designs from three ballets and one opera. Punctuating the walls are paintings, studies for various characters & back-drops and outlines for costume designs. The rooms are filled with the intoxicating sounds from the accompanying orchestras. Documentary footage of original performances are also included. This charming and lyrical show is available for viewing until January 07, 2018.Wendyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16599242220624569843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-191871576950511759.post-57786605617027934852017-09-04T14:40:00.000-07:002017-09-11T19:16:08.784-07:00Ready for my close-up

Interrupted only by a short burst of rain, this was a magical night at Cinespia. The landmarkHollywood Forever Cemetery back-drop provides an unusual space for showcasing the best of cinema. Sunday was no exception with the viewing of "Sunset Blvd" on the mausoleum wall coincidently adjacent to the spot where Cecile B DeMille is buried. The scheduled film has pre-show DJs, themed photo booths and plenty of space for picnicking.Wendyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16599242220624569843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-191871576950511759.post-26260958175221317332017-05-24T14:50:00.001-07:002017-05-24T14:50:16.999-07:00Maven of ModernismMaven of Modernism: Galka Scheyer in California which delves into the life of enterprising dealer, Galka Scheyer is available for viewing through September 25th at the Norton Simon Museum of Art in Pasadena. New York was one of 2,646 climate-change events in 156 countries. They pushed a variety of cause from anti-fracking to opposition to the Keystone pipeline. How poignant that I watched the march from the corner of the block which is home to the International Center for Photography boasting an exhibit of Sebastiao Salgado's latest masterpiece, Genesis - Earth Eternal.
The museum explores the exchange between French and German artists who were inspired by Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin and Paul Cezanne. Suggested viewing time is 75 minutes; this patron found that this was hard to do. I will have to go back. There is a wonderful addition,an audio tour, available with the LACMA app on your smart phone. So remember to bring your ear buds with you so that you can listen to the editors privately. And don't forget the reading glasses if you're into reading the descriptions.
Flights were canceled and I had to stay indoors for an extra two days! Meanwhile we watched the snow fall and blow from the luxury of the sofa.
He's at the Paley Center for Media every Saturday in December. I saw him two weeks ago and told him what a good girl I've been. He said, "Are you sure? Not just a little bit naughty." Okay - maybe he's right. A little.
When it opens to the public Friday at its new location in The Collection at River Park, the center operated by the Oxnard Convention & Visitors Bureau will offer visitors one-stop shopping for tickets to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, souvenir dish towels printed with strawberries, and free pamphlets for attractions from San Francisco to San Diego.Wendyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16599242220624569843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-191871576950511759.post-54372924574584501632013-12-16T22:39:00.001-08:002013-12-16T22:39:49.346-08:00First Person SingularOnce again Neiman Marcus, Beverly Hills, wins my vote for best holiday windows. Of course we all know the story of Peter Pan so there is some anticipation of flying. But it's really about how Peter came to be a 'boy'. The cast had great fun with the peculiar mermaids and the movable parts of the set. In this case, there is nothing like the magic of live theater. Through January 12, 2014.
But for the holiday hostess and I, that just wasn't enough. Since neither one of us got any pie on Turkey Day, we went straight for the nearest grocery store, and then another one and another. Only to discover that Burbank was sold out of the famous squash! The man behind the deli counter at Ralph's pointed us to the display at the front door (which we had passed on the way in). We walked back thinking that we must have missed something only to find an 8' table, two wooden cartons with some lonely display straw. Nothing. Nada. Rien. Nienete. We promptly bought all of the ingredients and baked one. It was delicious.
The charming grounds and Wattles Mansion were recently restored and the park is now open sun-up to sun-down off of Curson Avenue and Hollywood Blvd. The 1907 structure was the winter home of an Omaha tycoon. Although the garden was closed today, the walkway to the top leads to a Japanese gate and with some challenge to a Japanese shrine.
