Art of Chocolate Perfected

More than 70 years ago in a small town in the Swiss Alps, a master chocolate maker embarked on a path that would make him one of the world’s greatest chocolatiers.   Teuscher (pronounced toy-sure) prepares luxury chocolates each week which are flown immediately to their stores throughout the world.  Look for the finest cocoa, marzipan, fruits, nuts and surprisingly cheerful packaging.  Located just a block west of Luxe Rodeo Drive Hotel, these members of the wedding party are ready to celebrate any occasion. http://www.teuscher-bh.com/

Gran Fondo

Yesterday, Sunday June 26th, Gran Fondo Colnago Los Angeles made its debut, departing from Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Gran Fondo means "Big Ride" in Italian. The Gran Fondo USA events are modeled after the long distance, mass-participation cycling rides - not races - which are immensely popular in Italy. Participation was open to recreational and competitive amateur cyclists, and tens of thousands of riders of all abilities participate. Just like in Italy, each Gran Fondo USA event includes a mass start, and three challenging routes: a 100 mile length named the Gran Fondo, a 50 mile Medio Fondo and a 25 mile Piccolo Fondo. They rode all the way up to Malibu and returned to Beverly Hills where they were greeted enthusiastically at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.  It was a Gran Success.

Hi Wendy,  How are you? I hope you are doing well. Thanks for the card. I think all of the characteristics are true except the part about how I should be a nun for my occupation. That is funny to me.  It was so cute and sweet of you. Thank you very much.  Hope to see you soon!  Best regards. Laurie [Bentley, All Star Travel Group]

A Contented Guest

Wendy,  I wanted to thank you for my upgrade this past stay. The Penthouse level is gorgeous and the view was breathtaking! The fact that both Gail and I were on that level was perfect as not only are we co-workers but also great friends. We really enjoyed our private deck and got such a kick out of being the only two up there.  As I said before you continue to impress and now with the Penthouse experience you are one of my favorite people ;-)  Jen  [Sales Representative, Tyler Technologies, Inc.]

Lemonade just right

Everybody knows how to make lemondate, right?  Squeeze some lemons, add sugar and water.  But Chef James Jung makes lemonade extra special with fresh squeezed watermelon.  Try some today .  It's the first day of summer after all.  [Only vodka might make it better!]

In gratitude

This evening the Rodeo Drive Committee held a reception for Tom Blumenthal, Geary's Beverly Hills, in order to officially thank him for his years of service.  We acknowledged the many events including the Walk of Style, Snow 90210 and Fashions Night Out which took place during his presidency.  We are grateful to Tom for his tireless support and his persuasive leadership.  Seen here while Vice Mayor Brien presents an award from the City.

A Contented Guest

Hi Wendy and Trish,
Just wanted to say thank you regarding my recent stay at the Luxe Rodeo drive. I just got back home yesterday and enjoyed my 3 nights at the hotel. The staff were all great especially Charles and Jasmine in the cafe and the hotel itself was great overall. I’ll be recommending the property to others going to LA.  Thanks again.   Miriam [Consulting Analyst – Advisory Services JAPA , American Express Business Travel]

Rango

I think I saw Rango at Joshua Tree.  Or was it a mirage?

Joshua Tree National Park

Straight out of a Dr. Seuss book, the Joshua Tree is a prickly oddity.  As we approached Twenty Nine Palms, CA, more and more trees dotted the landscape and during our hikes along the park's nature trails we gained greater appreciation for the tree's importance to the Mojave Desert's ecosystem.  At the end of the day we relaxed at the local 29 Palms Inn.  It was a perfect [bit rustic] getaway from Los Angeles.  The park commemorates it's 75th anniversary as part of our national park system, http://www.jtnp75.org/.

Travel Fact

Tourism-related industries are the leading employer in LA County, with 437,000 Angelenos employed in this sector in 2010 that makes LA a very hospitable destination for its 25.7 million annual visitors.  America's amusement parks thrown for a loop by the slumping economy over the last few years are starting to rebound, drawing bigger crowds over the past year and spending more money on new attractions and shows this season. Crowds increased at many U.S. parks in 2010, with some seeing record attendance. Profits were up as families sought out fun and began traveling again. Better weather helped, too. Those within the amusement industry are optimistic this year will be even better.

In the Moody

Got up early this morning to stand in line for an Australians in Film screening of Judy Moody at The Grove. And it was mighty early for me!  I joining hundreds of moms and kids who wanted to be the first to see this Disney movie; moms were drinking coffee and the kids were ready for popcorn and soda.  After the feature, Disney Radio prepare games and giveaways.  We [adults] all agreed it was the perfect 'kids movie'; just enough summer adventure and gross stuff to make any youngster happy.  I'm going to make a list myself and earn 100 thrill points worth of 'awesome things' I've never done before.  I plan on having a NOT-so-bummer-summer too.

Auction of a lifetime

This week I saw L'Amour Fou which centers on the partner of the late designer Yves Saint Laurent as he  readies their artworks for auction.  In the documentary film, Pierre Berge speaks poignantly about attending the Christie's auction and hoping the precious pieces will "fly off like birds and find a new place to perch."  We [the audience] mourned the dismantling of a life together; the spoils of their love being picked apart.  It is a tender film focused on the long relationship between Laurent and Berge as well as Laurent's place in fashion history, developing the first ready-to-wear line.  Full of fascinating historical footage and tours of their sumptuous homes, it is a marvelous look into their jet-set life style, art collection and the memory of the person who shared them.  Now playing at Laemmle Royal Theatre, West Los Angeles.

Rock 'n Roll in pictures

Linda McCartney: Life in Photographs is a magnificent selection of 300 photos from her archive of 200,000 images (available at Taschen $69.99 trade edition).  It is not only an intimate peek at he McCartneys at play but also a scrapbook of candid behind-the-scenes shots of such figures and performers as the Doors, Willem de Kooning, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Tim Buckley, Michael Jackson and Johnny Depp.  "She [Linda] found her confidence in rock 'n roll.  She had a real interest in her subjects and that passion comes through," says Mary McCartney of her mother's images.  Taschen is located on Beverly Drive so you can get inspired in person. http://www.taschen.com/

Rodeo Drive Walk of Style

This morning Rodeo Drive honored one of its own, Fred Hayman, for his contributions to the worlds of fashion and entertainment.  The ceremony at the corner of Dayton Way and Rodeo Drive was decorated in the yellow and white stripes symbolizing Giorgio of Beverly Hills which so proudly anchored the corner where Louis Vuitton now stands.  Each speaker collectively expressed their admiration for Mr. Hayman who has become a legend on Rodeo Drive.  At the reception following his induction ceremony as a taste maker to movie stars and Beverly Hills residents, boutique managers and friends continued to praise his kindness and business acumen.  Watch for a new plaque on the drive dedicated to the father of this world famous Drive.  Congratulations!
