Tour Connection

Another year has passed and we're back at Tour Connection plying our hotels. This year's trade show was at the Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey. Margit Haut and I had a good time greeting old friends and influencing new ones. Although, after five hours on my feet, the heels came off and a martini was welcomed. Thank you, Margit for standing with me.
Hi Wendy,
"It was awesome seeing you and hanging out last night – a lot of fun!!!! Talk soon!" Cindy [Mansour Travel]

Le Pain Quotidien

Dashed out of the hotel today for a quick lunch with the ladies.
Ricotta Fig Tartine
1/3 cup ricotta cheese
1 slice of buttered Le Pain Quotidien organic whole wheat bread
2 tsp. organic honey
1/4 plum tomato, diced
3 figs, cut into quarters
3 cracks of fresh pepper
Spread the ricotta cheese on the slice of buttered whole wheat bread. Run a fork through the ricotta, forming ridges. Drizzle honey over the ricotta before sprinkling with the diced tomatoes and fig pieces. Finish with three cracks of black pepper. Cut into five equal triangles and plate. Add garnish. Yum!

A Happy Travel Agent

Wendy,
First off, thank you very much for the birthday card, birthday stats and good wishes. I had a great couple of weeks. It’s always a special treat to receive your card with all the interesting things associated with my date of birth.
Well I’ll be seeing you at Tour Connection this Thursday. On other fronts, I just started another company – Pacific Beach Recording Company. We are creating and producing vinyl records for DJ’s. It’s been a passion for a long time, it’s exciting to finally be executing a life-long dream.
Anywho, I hope all is well with you and I look forward to catching up.
I can be reached on my cell if you need me.
All the Best, Chris Renzulli [President : Tourwerks]

Happy Birthday, Happy Wake

Commemorating the 445th birthday and 393rd deathday of William Shakespeare, Gent., Arlene Winnick and Richard Schulenberg throw the loveliest party each year. They had such marvelous friends gathered for English Renaissance foods and spirit. Arlene requested 'no presents please, the guest of honor will not be present.' Thank goodness.

WME Entertainment - news

The William Morris board met on Tuesday of this week to consider the merger; by Friday night the deal was done. The merger of the two talent agencies will create a new force in Hollywood at a time of uncertainty and rapid transformation. The successful conclusion of the deal represents a significant achievement on the part of William Morris leaders Jim Wiatt and Dave Wirtschafter, and Endeavor head Ari Emanuel.

Wendy,
Thank you so much for the site inspection and the lovely dinner. It was delicious.
We love your hotel and will try to keep the bookings coming! By the way, you looked so fabulous. It was great seeing you. Thanks again!
Best regards,
Laurie [ALTOUR at Endeavor]

PROST luncheon

When Stephanie Nakasone called an invited me to a PROST lunch at SLS Hotel, I immediately said, "yes." What a treat to be hosted for such a savory tapas lunch at The Bazaar by Jose Andres! Each course [and there were lots of them] were sophisticated culinary creations. Two hours of delicious - thank you Stephanie.

Peep Show

Finally a Peep Show in Beverly Hills! I couldn't resist looking - just once...maybe twice at the lycra-and-cotton-clad mannequins in the window. Located on Beverly Drive, they create components for people to live longer, healthier, more fun lives. http://www.lululemon.com/

Wisconsin Water Park

Over spring break, we drove to a water park near the Wisconsin Dells. Previous to the drive, I was teaching the girls how to play charades. Can we say: Over Chlorinated?

One cougar and two gerbils: 17 Again

It was sort of cute at first, but it's a bit tiresome. For those of you who saw Zac Efron on Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago, there's a new name for the tweens who are upgrading to the older guy. And here we have it, my nieces and I going to see 17 Again. One cougar and two gerbilss.

Sidewalk Chalk

We created a triptych: replete with castle and dragon, mountain stream with bat cave and shark. The princess hanging from a first floor window turned out to be a bit challenging but all in all I think we did a great job. And Chloe, Mickey and I had a great time doing it.

Dairy State

They don't call Wisconsin: America's Dairyland for nothin'. Those cow and dairy promotions turn up everywhere.

How cute!! the one on the right looks like you!! ALOT

National Grilled Cheese Month

April may well be the most taxing month of all, but it is also ... National Grilled Cheese month. Cheese is normally near-and-dear to foodies' hearts (and mouths). But is there another reason to consume? Pile it on. Luxe Hotel Rodeo drive is only steps from one of the best cheese shops in LA: The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills. And I'm headed for Wisconsin on vacation to celebrate.

Annenberg Space for Photography

The Annenberg Space for Photography opened March 27th and runs through June - a must view. The new gallery opened in the former Chubert Theater space in Century City. The premiere show gathered images from eight Los Angeles-based-photographers. From John Baldessari, Greg Gorman, Douglas Kirkland, Catherine Opie, Julius Shulman and Tim Street-Porter covering fine art, architecture, documentary, fashion, and celebrities, there are several LA Times photojournalists who move us and remind us of our humanity and connection to the rest of the world. 2000 Avenue of the Stars, 310-209-4560. http://www.annenbergspaceforphotography.org/

Chloe

Over the weekend, I finally slipped into Chloe, the bright, white and T-shape designed boutiqe which opened in March; the sunlight rooms are filled with gorgeous shoes, bags leathers and spring and summer clothes. The LA Times said it best: "Its casual looks, what the French refer to as 'day wear,' are Los Angeles day-to-night wear. As a matter of fact, the line looks so right for an L.A. woman's closet -- sheer blouses paired with shorts, one-shoulder dresses -- that you wonder why Chloé, which just opened its first proper Los Angeles boutique on Melrose Place, took so long to get here."

A Happy Client

Hello Miss Wendy!
How are you? I got your fabulous birthday message and you know how much the little horoscope page means to me! J Thank you! Even funnier that my color is “violet tulle” - my parents have a picture of me from when I was like 6 years old or so, wearing head to TOE violet, I mean even my Garfield Velcro strap sneakers were violet as were my knickers. You know because knickers were all the rage back then. I guess violet really IS my color.
Have a great weekend! Christine [Lindebak, Tadashi Shoji & Associates]

Books on CD and David Sedaris

Recently I noted that humorist, writer, bestselling author and radio contributor, David Sedaris, is going to speak in Los Angeles at Royce Hall on April 29th. http://www.uclalive.org/ This reminded me that I needed a couple of good books on CD to break up that long drive I'll be making to Phoenix shortly. And then I thought better of it because it's just too funny for a car trip. Much of Sedaris' humor is autobiographical and concerns family life in middle class suburbia and his life in France. While I listened to Me Talk Pretty One Day and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, I had to pull over for fear of laughing too hard and losing it. 'Depends' just aren't my style. Hence, I'm taking a French classic and non-fiction along for the ride.

Local Talent Gets Crafty

Though it is called Global Bazaar at CAFAM, the Craft and Folk Art Museum's sale began today and goes through Saturday with plenty of local talent. Vendors of handmade, fair-trade goods abound. Check out the courtyard and second floor galleries of the museum for a wall installation composed of 33 wooden vessels forged from thrift shop salad bowls. http://www.cafam.org/

Simple, Purposeful, Ecological, Crafted

Currently on display in the garden outside of the Pacific Design Center, aka "blue whale", is HOM 1 dwelling. It's a 1,000 square foot home with two bedrooms and two baths plus kitchen, living and dining, delivered as a single unity by one truck. HOM comes fully equipped with all the necessities of a custom home. During Westweek, Jennifer and I took a tour and were impressed with its high efficiency, cabinetry and outdoor patio as an extension of the home. There's also a HOM 2 version with 2,000 square feet. It's open by appointment. Send an e-mail to info@HOMlifestyle.com for more information.

Kim Kardashian - kicks it

Can't wait for Genlux magazine to publish the next issue. Kim Kardashian took center stage today at Luxe Hotel Rodeo Drive during a fashion shoot. I got a chance to watch one of the day's scheduled sessions in one of our Junior Suites. I stood behind uber adorable photographer, Marc Baptiste, as he worked his magic.

Valentino

Valentino Garavani was honored today for his extraordinary contribution to the worlds of fashion and entertainment. The City of Beverly Hills and The Rodeo Drive Committee hosted the stylish plaque unveiling and induction ceremony at Two Rodeo - Via Rodeo. From the balcony at Versace, I got a birds eye view of Anne Hathaway and Mr. Garavani. Moments like this you feel as though you're in the company of royalty!

Alien Trespass

Australians in Film and Roadside Attractions presented a screening of Alien Trespass last night. Set in 1957, this sci-fi spoof chronicles a fiery object from space that crashes into a mountaintop in the California desert, bringing the threat of disaster to Earth. Out of the flying saucer escapes a murderous creature - the Ghota - which is bent on destroying all life forms on the planet. A benevolent alien from the spaceship, Urp, inhabits the body of Ted Lewis (Eric McCormack) - a local astronomer - and with the help of Tammy (Jenni Baird), a waitress from the local diner, sets out to save mankind. So before the Q&A began, I whispered to my friend Janine, that I saw a puddle on the floor of the lobby with a string of pearls. She said, "Really? Shut up. You're crazy." Now you will just have to see it, too. Seen here with two aliens and Greg Coates from Australians in Film.

A Happy Guest of Cafe Rodeo

Good morning Wendy,
We had such a delightful time last night and wanted to say thank you for the hospitality. Everyone was so nice and the service was impeccable. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you and the staff. I would love to stop by and speak to the staff about design services (buying program, private & group tours, guided shopping etc). Let me know your thoughts when you get a minute. Best, Lynda

April Fool's Day

Q: Why is everyone so tired on April 1st?
A: Because they just finished a long March!
